I had the incredible opportunity to attend a painting residency in Spain—with one simple goal: to play with paint.
I wasn’t trying to create finished or even “beautiful” paintings. Instead, I gave myself permission to experiment, to explore, and to simply create. That shift in mindset opened up a completely different way of working—one rooted in curiosity rather than outcome.
What emerged from that process feels like the beginning of something new. I hope to carry elements from these paintings forward—translating them into prints, into single pieces of glass, and into future sculptures.
Throughout the residency, Rosa Fuentes was incredibly generous with her support and guidance. Her approach to abstract work created a space where exploration felt both encouraged and safe.
There were moments of complete terror and frustration—times when nothing felt right. But just as often, those moments gave way to pure joy and enthusiasm. That rhythm—of uncertainty and discovery—is something I’ll carry with me.
Stepping outside my comfort zone was exactly what I needed. It reminded me that growth often begins where control ends.
